Seacole Class - Year 1
Class Teacher: Miss Hartley
Teaching Assistants: Mrs Hale and Miss Scott
Welcome to Seacole Class! We are a Year 1 class where children enjoy learning, exploring new ideas and building confidence in a happy and supportive environment. Throughout the year pupils build on their early learning skills while becoming more independent learners, taking part in a range of exciting activities across the curriculum. Our classroom encourages children to SHINE through curiosity, teamwork, kindness and always trying our best.
We value providing opportunities for all children to take part in enriching experiences that enhance and deepen their learning. In Year 1 this includes bringing RE learning to life, as well as taking part in regular experience days linked to our Geography, History, and Science topics, alongside engaging and practical learning opportunities in Mathematics and English.
At St Joseph’s we follow the Sounds-Write phonics programme. In Year 1, children take part in daily phonics lessons which support their development of strong reading and spelling skills, as well as preparing them for the Phonics Screening Check. Children are also sent home with a Sounds-Write decodable reading book that matches the sounds being taught in class, enabling them to practice and consolidate their learning at home.
